My main railway interest is in the Somerset and Dorset line.

My models are generally set in the period  between 1959 and 1964, although I make no secret of the fact that I occasionally 'stretch' history if it means I get to run other locos and stock that interest me!

Most of my modelling is of standard gauge prototypes. I model in 4mm scale, in 16.5mm gauge (i.e. 'OO') to finescale standards and also in P4.

Other projects have been in '005' (4mm scale, 5mm gauge - narrow gauge prototypes) and '16mm' narrow gauge garden railways. You can find out more about these projects in 'Other Items'.

Information on my two current exhibition layouts 'Engine Wood' and 'Bleakhouse Road' and also my new P4 layout 'Callow Lane' can be found by clicking on 'Model Layouts'.

Please note that this site is not a commercial site and none of the items referred to on its pages are for sale, unless otherwise stated.

New book - The Cotswold Line - 'Then & Now'

Thanks to a chance meeting with John Stretton and Peter Townsend from Silver Link Publishing a couple of years ago, Tim has co-written a railway book on the Cotswolds line, with input from David Northey, between Oxford and Worcester. This has coincided with the major Network Rail project to re-double most of this route, which Tim has been much involved with at work.
John is a professional railway author and photographer and sourced or actually took most of the photographs, whilst Tim wrote most of the 200+ captions. The result was a soft-cover version of the book, which was published in September, followed by a limited ‘Subscribers’ hard-back edition, published in December. Network Rail and First Great Western have bought 50% of the production run of the hard back to give to project staff and ‘stakeholders’. Tim is donating his royalties from the book to charity (Alzheimer's Society).

In common with other books in the popular 'Past and Present' series, this new book shows views of the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway (OWW) line, taken during three distinct periods: pre-singling (before 1971)  the 'single track' era (1971 to 2011)  and the newly-redoubled route post-June 2011. Many of the latter-day photos have been taken from the same viewpoint and angle as the older views, enabling the reader to see with great clarity how the line has changed over the years. There are also photos taken during the key redoubling blockades in 2009, 2010 and 2011.  The standard version features a soft-back cover with over 200 black & white and colour illustrations. It costs £19.99 (plus P&P) and is available from booksellers or directly from the publisher.

My sincere thanks to Chris Nevard for designing my new website logo.
